Happy 2007! As January comes to a close, we are starting to get some trips on the water again after a gap of a few weeks. Wildlife sightings will continue to be prolific, including plenty of seals and sea lions at the Race Rocks colony. Just yesterday, some Dall's porpoise decided to bow-ride on our Zodiacs right outside Victoria Harbour. Chances to see Killer Whales remain about 50/50 through February, although nobody at Prince of Whales will soon forget last year's back-to-back February days with sightings of 35 transient Killer Whales. We're hoping for a repeat performance! In any case, don't hesitate to call us during this exciting time of year to get out on a trip or plan your excursion for the peak summer season - we have plenty of time to chat! NOVEMBER SIGHTINGS PREDICTED TO BREAK RECORDS !The month of October witnesed the highest success rate for sightings of Humpback Whales on record. Close to Victoria for more than six weeks we have consistently visited up to seven Humpback Whales within miles of the City of Victoria.
As we start November, the weather is still clear and brilliant for marine wildlife cruises. Ocean ecosystems are bountiful with food at this time of the year and wildlife is surprisingly conspicuous. Over 100 Sea Lions are inhabiting Race Rocks Lighthouse, which often brings in the stealth-like Transient Orcas, looking to feed on seals, porpoises and sea lions.
